Anti-Israel protesters ran a Palestinian flag up the US Consulate flagpole in Auckland yesterday.
Mike Treen from Global Peace and Justice Auckland confirmed protesters had raised the Palestinian flag.
"It was a beautiful moment," he said.
The flag was raised after protesters, lead by veteran activist John Minto, marched down Queen St to voice their anger about the Jewish state's actions in the escalating conflict with Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
Auckland woman Sara Espinoza said the New Zealand Government should tell Israel to stop the strikes by its warplanes on the Gaza Strip. Protesters also threw old shoes - a traditional display of disgust in the Middle East - at the consulate.
