Singles players Jean Paku and Daphne Traynor provided the highlights for the Wairarapa senior women's bowls team when they were beaten by Kapiti Coast in a representative match over the weekend.
Paku continued some impressive form by winning both of her matches while Traynor had one win and lost her other match in a tie-ebreaker.
The pairs combinations for Wairarapa were Avis Cooper and Karyn Burling and Judith Wyeth and Wendy Mitchell while the triples teams were Dale Batty, Makaia Campbell and Darkie Barrow and Sue Sherwood, Carol Voller and Diana Stevenson.
The Wairarapa development squad women's team were also beaten by Kapiti Coast but turned in some fine performances all the same.
Maria Steffert had a big win in one of her singles matches, Mavis Jones and Sue O'Kane picked up a win in the pairs and the triples team of Lora Green, Shirley Poutu and Dernersia Leathem had a fine win, a result made even more impressive by the fact they have all had five years or less playing experience.
The development squad line-ups consisted of Edith Kern and Maria Steffert in the singles, Mavis Jones and Sue O'Kane and Pat Millar and Anne Hollis in the pairs and Myrtle Stanford, Maureen Daysh and Dorothy Christensen and Lorna Green, Shirley Poutu and Dernersia Leatham in the triples.
Meanwhile, Masterton B has taken a clear lead after five rounds of play in the Hannam-Knowles men's inter-club series.
They have 30 points., five more than Masterton C on 25. Then come Greytown 18, Masterton A 13, Lansdowne A 12, South End 12, Park 6 and Lansdowne B.
The clash between the Masterton B and C teams will be a highlight of the next series of matches as will the encounter between Greytown and Lansdowne A.
