Footage has emerged of two brave women trying to break up the vicious brawl inside Mangere Pak'n Save that threatened to spill over into bystanding children on Tuesday night.
Shocking scenes saw a group of men involved in a nasty brawl where kicks and punches were thrown and landed. A brave security guard was also struck.
The women took their safety into their own hands after fearing for the safety of children who were metres from the brawl.
The two brave women shouted at the men to stop, and one grabbed a man and pulled him back. Another used a shopping trolley to block the scene.
One of the women then shouted at the brawlers: "Take it outside, we got kids!"
Viewers expressed their disgust at the men, while heaping praise on the two women who tried to intervene.
"How bloody disgusting grow up. Baby's mothers and children are in the supermarkets all the time. What heroes Poor women that had to break it up," one person wrote.
"I admire and am very grateful to the Mother's who seemed to be bystanders who tried their best to breakup the fight. One got to have a lot of heart to be a Peace Maker," another said.
One viewer labelled the women as heroes and lashed out at the men involved in the brawl.
"Men behaving like that and all those brave women in there trying their best to split it up... says it all really. Brave ladies - they deserve a medal for trying to contain those f***wits."
Head of external relations for Foodstuffs NZ Antoinette Laird told the Herald the brawl was unacceptable.
"Obviously, this behaviour is completely inappropriate and it was a rather unpleasant experience for other shoppers.
"According to the store no one was hurt. However, police were notified and the incident is being investigated."
Police say they were called to a fight involving multiple individuals about 9.10pm on Tuesday, but when they arrived those involved had fled.
"We would like to speak to anyone involved, or those who may know who was involved."
