Concern about near-shore sand mining and erosion at Pakiri Beach has prompted 1052 people to sign a petition to the Auckland Regional Council calling for a ban on mining.
The petition was presented yesterday at the northern end of the beach to councillors Sandra Coney and Christine Rose.
