Two people were "very lucky" to be alive after the vehicle they were in flipped numerous times down the mountain face of the Remarkables yesterday afternoon.
The driver, a 29-year-old New Zealand man, has been charged with careless driving causing injury and is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court next Monday.
Senior Sergent Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said the crash happened about 5pm after the driver overtook another vehicle descending the ski field's access road.
The driver lost control of the vehicle near car park 4 and the car then "went down the mountain face, overturned multiple times and came to a stop" about 200m below the road.
He and his passenger managed to get out of the vehicle and walk back up to the road.
