A couple were remanded today after allegedly kidnapping, beating and cutting off the hair of a 24-year-old woman.
Police said the woman was taken from her home at Richmond, 12km southwest of Nelson by a man and woman on Friday night.
She was driven to another house where she was subjected to a lengthy beating and had her hair hacked off.
She was later returned to her own home where she called for help and was taken to hospital and treated for cuts and bruising.
A 41-year-old Motueka man and 28-year-old Richmond woman appeared in Nelson District Court this afternoon on charges including kidnapping, injuring with intent, and assault with a weapon.
They were remanded to reappear next month.
