Two people had a lucky escape when a car they were in plunged into a river today.
The incident happened near Edgecumbe in the Bay of Plenty at about 11.40am.
A Bay of Plenty police spokeswoman understood ambulance staff treated two people who escaped from the car.
"So there was no rescue needed. They got out of their own accord."
A Northern Fire Communications spokesman confirmed the two people in the car were able to escape the sinking vehicle before coming to harm.
