A Tauranga District Court jury has found a woman guilty of assault on and cruelty to her adopted daughter.
The 54-year-old woman was found guilty on four charges of cruelty to a child, one of assault on a child aged under 14, two of assault with a weapon and two of assault on a child with intent to injure.
The accused's son, a 27-year-old Tauranga caregiver, was found guilty on one charge of assault with intent to injure and two of assault with a weapon.
The charges relate to allegations the victim, now 14, made last year. She said the woman would give her cold baths, put chilli powder in her eyes and punch and hit her.
