A man and a woman are facing charges after a spate of ram-raids on new parking meters in Christchurch.
More than a dozen of the Christchurch City Council's new high-tech pay-and-display machines have been knocked down and damaged for the few coins they contain.
Installed from July, the new meters accept credit cards and other methods of payment as well as coins.
Security camera footage taken when three meters near the central city's Latimer Square were damaged last Thursday night helped police identify two people, a council spokesman said today.
A police spokeswoman said a man and a woman appeared in court on unrelated matters on Friday and were in custody.
Investigations into the parking meter raids were continuing.
