For many teens, their first school ball is all about outward appearances.
However, two St Peter's College, Cambridge, students have looked beyond that to raise more than $8000 for youth cancer charity CanTeen.
Alice McBeth, 16, and Chantal Mawer, 17, had their heads shaved outside Rodney Wayne hair salon in Hamilton yesterday to raise awareness about young people with cancer.
"It's been amazing, the amount of support we've had," Alice says.
"We're so happy to be able to help CanTeen."
Chantal says she was quite nervous, but it was not too bad in the end.
"Teens with cancer don't have a choice whether they have hair for their school ball."
The school ball was held last night.
