Two men accused of attacking a Wairoa police constable who pulled over their car on Boxing Day have been further remanded in custody.
The attendance of Owen Carl Withington, 25, and Patrick Steven Arahanga, 26, was excused when their case was called in Gisborne District Court yesterday.
Withington is charged with aggravated injury, two counts of aggravated assault on a police constable, resisting police and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
Arahanga, 26, is charged with aggravated injury, escaping from custody, possession of an offensive weapon and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
The two men were scheduled to apply for bail but lawyers for both said no application would proceed and asked for a further adjournment to apply at a later date.
Judge Tony Adeane said he would not accept court proceedings "sitting in limbo".
He refused their bail applications and remanded Withington and Arahanga in custody to reappear in court on February 25.
