Imagine competing for a world title and being beaten into third place by just one-tenth of a second.
That was the fate which befell Masterton's Faavae Sefo and Feilding's Warren Riddle when they contested the final of the world double sawing championship at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney over the weekend.
So close was the finish that despite having the benefit of video coverage the judges took about 30 minutes to confirm the result with Sefo and Riddle having to settle for third in an event won by eight-times world champions, Australians Stephen Kirk and Justin Beckett.
"To be honest I was pretty gutted, I thought we had won," Sefo said yesterday.
"I knew it was desperately close but I had a feeling we had just done enough."
