P pipe charge after car seen weaving on motorway

The driver of a car seen bouncing off concrete barriers as it weaved along the Wellington motorway has been charged with possession of a P pipe.

The woman, who did not have a licence, was detained by members of the public after stopping suddenly north of Johnsonville last Friday evening and failed the new compulsory impairment test by police, Senior Constable Bruce Pauling told The Dominion Post.

She did not have any medical conditions and passed a roadside breathalyser test.

The woman was charged with possession of a methamphetamine pipe while police waited on results of a blood test.

She would also face a number of driving charges.

Police had received calls about a car seen colliding with a concrete barrier on the Aotea on-ramp.

The car then continued on the motorway, weaving across three lanes and hitting the median barrier and side railings several times.

Mr Pauling said it was some of the worst driving he had come across.

The woman has been bailed to appear in Wellington District Court tomorrow.
