A Dunedin couple who bought a Lotto ticket from Mosgiel New World celebrated their new millionaire status by splashing out on two dozen oysters.
The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, are regular Lotto players and have been using the same numbers for more than 20 years.
"We have won third division and even a second division over the years, but it is unbelievable that we have finally won first division - we are so excited," said the winning man.
"My wife walked past the New World and saw their sign up saying they had sold a big winner, and thought 'how nice'. When she got around to checking our ticket and realised we had won the million it was an 'oh my God' moment.
"We can now be mortgage-free this year and are already starting planning some travel for next year. It's really the icing on the cake for us."
