Northland Health says oyster farms in Orongo Bay near Russell and the upper Waikare Inlet are closed to harvesting until March 16 because of high levels of faecal contamination found in oyster stocks.
People are also being urged not to gather shellfish from Russell to Okiato Point and the Waikare Inlet.
