The man who owned four pig dogs which savaged a teenager in the Waikato last week has been charged by police.
The 37-year-old Waitoa man was served with a summons yesterday to appear in court after his four pitbull-greyhound cross dogs attacked the 13-year-old as he rode his bike.
He was bitten more than 100 times, received more than 300 stitches and spent five days in Waikato Hospital. The dogs were destroyed soon after the attack.
The victim later thanked Jeanne Robinson - former All Black Keith Robinson's wife - and two other women who saved him from the dogs.
He said he just wanted to get better and get back to school and see his friends.
"I've got a little foxy dog at home so I'm going to be fine with dogs in the future," he said in a statement.
"I'm not scared of dogs, just pitbulls, other dogs are fine.
"I don't want to be on television or in the newspaper. I want to get on with my life."
The dog owner faced charges of owning a dog which causes injury and failing to register a dog.
