KEY POINTS:
The National Party yesterday continued to demand accountability for the decision to parole Graeme Burton and NZ First said more information about prisoners had to be supplied.
Three reports issued this week explained the background to Burton's release and the events that led to him killing a man.
But they did not lay blame on government departments or individuals, and National's corrections spokesman, Simon Power, says he cannot believe what is happening.
"Why won't someone in Corrections admit they screwed up?" he asked.
"All that most people would like to see is the Minister of Corrections [Damien O'Connor] and his department admit it has made some serious blunders over the issue of Graeme Burton's parole and the killing of Karl Kuchenbecker."
NZ first's law and order spokesman, Ron Mark, said that if offenders could not behave in prison and required extended supervision, then they should stay in jail.
"We need to go back and address the fundamental aim of parole - to provide the prisoner with an incentive for rehabilitation and reform through the prospect of early release."
