A Palmerston North man who called the police to investigate a home burglary was arrested after they discovered cannabis plants.
Palmerston North District Court heard police were called to the home of Jeremy Daniel Loy, 27, after he was burgled in April. They discovered 13 cannabis plants.
Judge Gregory Ross described the situation in World Cup terms as "an own goal".
Loy was convicted on one charge of cultivating cannabis.
