A Palmerston North house was seriously damaged in a large fire overnight.
Three fire appliances were called to the house on Keeling Street at 12.43am, central fire communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said.
There were no reported injuries.
Mr Dunbar was the fire was "well out" by 6am and police were guarding the scene until fire safety investigators arrived later today.
Also overnight, a road in the Lower Hutt suburb of Naenae was cordoned off after a small fire at the top of a power pole.
Mr Dunbar said the fire, at the intersection of Rimu and Rata streets, broke out about 5.44am.
"It's burnt through the power lines and the lines have come down," he said.
Firefighters would remain at the scene until the power was turned off.
