A Masterton man was disqualified from driving for 12 months on his second drink drive charge, in Masterton District Court on Thursday.
Neil Gerard Barnden, 59, pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alcohol level of 190ml - equivalent to a breath level of around 950mcg. Judge Stephanie Edwards said she would not impose community work because Barnden, who has a heart condition and was in hospital when the matter first came to court, was "not physically able to do that".
However the disqualification would be longer to compensate and because there were "concerns" with the high level of alcohol.
Barnden, who has already engaged in alcohol treatment, was also sentenced to six months supervision. When his disqualification ends, he will need to apply for a zero alcohol licence which will apply for three years.
