Netball Wairarapa have decided against playing any of their interclub matches at the Genesis Recreation Centre in Masterton this winter.
The indoor court at the centre has been regularly used over the past few seasons for premier one games in particular but a variety of reasons have led to all club games being played outdoors in 2010-11.
Netball Wairarapa president Sandy Biel is confident the change will be a popular one as attendances at Recreation Centre matches - often played on Friday nights - had generally been poor and the costs of playing there had added to the financial burden on clubs.
"We had a lot of people saying they found it difficult to get to night games and there's no doubt playing outdoors is a cheaper option ... it's a win-win in those respects," she said.
Indications are this season's premier one competition, which begins on May 7, will involve eight teams, two fewer than last season.
Definitely missing will be Fagan Motors who have gone into recess and Kuranui College who have elected to have their team play at premier two level.
There will, however, still be three college sides involved in the top grade, Wairarapa, Makoura and St Matthew's Collegiate.
Defending champions Harcourts seem certain to be back again, while talk is that Celtic - who won the premier title in 2009-10 but withdrew last season because of player availability hassles - will be returning.
Entries for all grades are expected to be confirmed by the end of this week.
Saturday, May 7, will also see Netball Wairarapa hold a special annual general meeting after they had to call off February's meeting due to a lack of attendees.
