Convicted paedophile Trevor Hall has been sentenced to one year's home detention, prompting an outburst from the public gallery.
The sentence - handed down this morning in Tauranga District Court by Judge Peter Rollo - was followed by an outburst from the public gallery. Friends and family of the victim are currently patrolling around the courtroom, waiting for Hall to leave.
He had earlier pleaded guilty to four charges of indecent assault on a child. But his sentencing was adjourned until today after a judge sought medical information about Hall's emphysema and prognosis.
Hall's offending occurred after he met a woman and her 7-year-old daughter through the Salvation Army in Whakatane. The Salvation Army did not know he had been deported from Australia more than a decade earlier having spent 17 months in a Queensland jail for sexually abusing a child.
Hall was attacked outside court on December 4 by member of the public Danny Te Amo Walker, 46, who said he just "saw red'' after listening to details of Hall's offending.
