Out-of-towners blamed for mass Otara brawl

Out-of-towners are being blamed for an outbreak of violence in a South Auckland district.

Up to 25 people were involved in the brawl, with baseball bats sticks and a fence paling flying through the air. The fight broke out near the Manukau Institute of Technology late yesterday. One person ended up in hospital.

Otara Community Board member Mary Gush says she recognises most locals, and the youths in the fight were definitely not from the area. She says they were well-dressed, and not wearing hoodies or gang-related clothing.
