The 17-year-old injured in an attack in Otara, South Auckland, at the weekend has died in hospital. Police say the teen passed away just after midnight.
He was bashed about the head with a baseball bat in the town centre just before midnight on Saturday as he was walking to a taxi rank near the Galaxy nightclub. Police say four people had earlier chased two others from a bus shelter, then turned on the teenager.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Pizzini would like anyone who was in the area at around midnight on Saturday to call the police.
