Otago Rugby Football Union members Wayne Graham and Laurie Mains are taking legal action against Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull over claims of defamation, it has been confirmed.
Legal representatives acting for Mr Graham and Mr Mains, union chairman and deputy chairman respectively, yesterday filed paperwork with the High Court at Dunedin and served papers on Mr Cull.
The court papers, obtained by the Otago Daily Times, listed Messrs Graham and Mains as the plaintiffs and Mr Cull as the defendant.
The first conference between the parties was set down for June 25.
The move came after the ODT on Saturday reported members of the board had threatened Mr Cull with legal action unless he apologised for comments made about the union.
