Otago prisoner suffers 'sudden death'

A 30-year-old male inmate has died suddenly at the Otago Corrections Facility at Milburn, South Otago, has died.

Balclutha police were called to the prison at 5.45am today.

They described it as a "sudden death" but there were no suspicious circumstances and the matter has been referred to the coroner.

No other details were available.
