Otago police are urging motorists to take extreme care on the icy roads throughout the lower half of the South Island.
Police say they have received a number of reports of drivers getting caught out in black ice and icy surfaces on the roads.
Senior Sergeant John Robinson says it's important to be that extra bit cautious, slow down and drive to the conditions.
