A Central Otago farmer has been missing overnight in cold, frosty weather on farm-land near Cromwell.
The 64-year-old was in the Mount Pisa range mustering sheep with his wife but failed to meet up with her at the end of the day and a search was launched at 9pm last night, Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said.
Mr Brown said the farmers were dropped in to the range by helicopter yesterday and were keen to push the sheep down the mountain after recent snowfall.
A helicopter firm from Te Anau searched the range last night with night-vision goggles but found no sign of the missing farmer.
Ms Brown said he believed there was no fresh snowfall overnight, however conditions were very cold and frosty.
