The driver of a car which collided with a train this morning in Otago has escaped relatively unscathed.
Emergency services were called to the accident on a level crossing on Waimotu Rd near Herbert just after 7.30am.
Police said the car was extensively damaged, however the driver of the car, believed to be a male in his 50s, escaped with minor injuries.
He has been transported to hospital as a precaution.
The crash site was on a secondary road and the circumstances of the crash are unknown at this stage, police said.
