Ports of Auckland workers were treated to a close encounter with an orca and its calf on Wednesday.
The orca cow and calf were spotted in the Waitemata Harbour close to Bledisloe Terminal.
Karen Hemingway, of Ports of Auckland, captured a video of the pair in the water as they explored the area.
A pod of orcas came close to swimmers at Hahei and Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula recently.
The pod were filmed about 10 metres off shore at the popular holiday spots over Labour Weekend.
