KEY POINTS:
A 79-lot subdivision at Opito Bay on the Coromandel Peninsula has been given the go-ahead by the Thames-Coromandel District Council after a review by an independent commissioner.
The move has angered the Blackjack Protection Society, which says the subdivision is too large, intense and urban, and will affect the breeding grounds of the endangered dotterel. Developers Murray and Sue Edens say the subdivision will be in keeping with the rest of Opito Bay.
