Police have been out catching drink drivers in a sting named Operation Christopher.
Officers breathalysed motorists on State Highway 1 south of Auckland as they entered the Waikato District on Friday night.
"We've noticed frequently that people finish work in Auckland and drive into Waikato having consumed alcohol after finishing work," Sergeant John Stapleford told NZHerald.com.
Operation Christopher also aims to crack down on other offences such as drug driving, drug use, burglary and theft.
"We get quite a few stolen goods and vehicles coming down here," said Mr Stapleford.
