Open fires without a permit will be banned in the Far North from midnight this Friday because of a high fire risk.
Fires on beaches are also banned.
Permits from the Far North District Council will be needed for any hangi fire or property vegetation burn-off.
Gas and purpose-built barbecues and incinerators are exempt.
