Last year's finalists, Opaki and Martinborough, met in a Wairarapa regional one tennis match at Opaki on Saturday only this time it was a different result.
Martinborough were the 2008-09 champions but Opaki grabbed the honours on this occasion, winning 5-4.
The singles were kind to Opaki who scored four wins there to Martinborough's two.
In the men's section Brett Dymond battled his way to a three-set victory over Steve Chapman with Matt Stewart and Andy Colvin both winning in straight sets. The sole Martinborough win there came from Marco de Groot.
In the women's section Kate Wyeth chalked up a win for Opaki and Libby Paterson likewise for Martinborough.
The default victory secured in the doubles by Dymond and Colvin for Opaki over Chapman and Darling because of Darling being unable to play due to a back injury suffered in his singles was vital to the end result.
As it happened Martinborough won the other two doubles games to reduce Opaki's advantage to just the one rubber in the end.
The third set tie breaker in the women's match taken out by Didsbury and Paterson was a thrilling affair with the Martinborough pair finally getting the edge 13-12.
