An internet-based numeracy training programme for teachers in isolated schools is being extended.
After a two-year pilot scheme the training programme, for teachers who find it difficult to get to workshops, will be extended to teachers in up to 100 schools.
Education Minister Trevor Mallard said the web-based course with six workshops and online assistance was a successful approach to teacher learning. More than $11 million a year is spent on numeracy development projects for teachers.
Yesterday Tertiary Education Minister Steve Maharey also announced a scheme aimed at developing teaching and research partnerships between tertiary institutions and business.
The Partnerships for Excellence scheme will enable tertiary institutions to seek matching Government funding for investment projects generally valued at more than $10 million.
"To be eligible for a Government funding contribution, projects need to be large scale, new and unable to be funded via other means," Mr Maharey said.
"Private sector investment is expected to match that of Government."
