KEY POINTS:
A 33-year-old man lied about his age on the Bingbox hook-up website and ended up having sex five times with a 14-year-old girl he met on-line.
Shaun Jason Green said on the website that he was 19.
He pleaded guilty before Christchurch District Court Judge Brian Callaghan today to a representative charge of having sexual connection with an under-age girl, Christchurch Court News website reported.
Crown prosecutor Deidre Orchard said Green corresponded with the girl over the internet after they both subscribed to Bingbox.
That progressed to phone conversations and they met in Christchurch when she was in the city visiting her father.
The girl then stayed with Green on October 4 and 5, 2006, and during that time they had unprotected sex five times.
Green told police he thought the girl was 17.
Defence counsel Elizabeth Bulger said Green, who is unemployed, had been on bail without any breaches during his remands and she believed a prison sentence may not be inevitable.
But Mrs Orchard described imprisonment as "a distinct possibility".
Judge Callaghan remanded Green on bail to May 1 for a probation report, a report on his suitability for home detention, and sentence.
"You are advised that bail is no indication of the outcome of the sentencing," he said.
