Online anger has led to a real-life vigilante attack after police say a Facebook post prompted two men to assault another man.
The alleged offenders have both been charged over the assault and have been released on bail to appear in Alexandra District Court on Tuesday.
It is understood the assault last Friday took place after members of the community found out about a prior criminal offence committed by the victim.
A police spokesperson said comments were made on Facebook discussing the man's offence, and it was believed the online conversation led to his assault.
Local police have asked people not to take matters into their own hands following the incident.
