One trapped in truck crash near Kopu Bridge

One person is trapped in a vehicle after a truck and car crashed at a notorious crash blackspot near Thames.

Emergency services are cutting free the badly injured person trapped in the wreckage on State Highway 25.

Senior Sergeant David Raffan said the smash happened around 11am at Orongo, near the Kopu Bridge.

One person was believed to have critical injuries and a second person suffered serious injuries, he said.

The highway is closed between Pipiroa and Kopu and expected to remain shut for several hours.

Diversions are in place down Ngataipua and Hauraki Rds.
