One person still in hospital after Te Puke brawl

All but one of the four people involved in a family brawl in Te Puke on Friday night have been discharged from hospital.

A man beaten with a hockey stick during the brawl has been arrested for allegedly stabbing three men.

Neighbours said those involved were members of a family with a history of brawling on the street.

Police said three people were found with stab wounds at the Te Puke house and a fourth man, who had been beaten with a hockey stick, was found at a separate property.

A Bay of Plenty District Health Board spokeswoman said three of the men were discharged from Tauranga Hospital yesterday and a fourth remained in a stable condition in intensive care.

A St John spokesman said the men were taken to hospital from houses in Boucher Ave and Cameron Rd.

A neighbour on Boucher Ave said the family were always fighting.

"I hear them all the time. They spill out on to the street and one time I had to go out there with a hatchet to break them up,'' he said.

A 35-year-old fruit picker has been charged with assault and remanded in custody to appear in Tauranga District Court tomorrow.
