One person dies in Upper Hutt house fire

One person has died in a house fire in Upper Hutt overnight.

Police said emergency services were called to the blaze in Trentham, Upper Hutt shortly after 8pm.

"When services arrived the fire was well established.

"Unfortunately one person has been confirmed as deceased inside the address," police said.

The fire service said the blaze was contained to a single unit in a block of four flats.

Fire investigators would be working at the site this morning, a spokeswoman said.
