One person is dead and three others seriously injured in a two vehicle crash on State Highway 2 in Whakamarama on Saturday night.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 11.40pm after the collision between a car and a van.
Extrication equipment were used to release those inside one
of the vehicles.
"One person died at the scene and three others were transported to Tauranga hospital with serious injuries," a police spokeswoman said this morning.
Serious Crash Unit are investigating.
