One person and a small dog have died in a fatal house fire in Auckland overnight.
Firefighters were told about 1.15am today a person was trapped when they arrived at a burning garage being used as a sleepout in Flat Bush in Manukau.
"The fire crews extinguished the fire and searched the garage and found the body," said chief fire safety officer for the Auckland region, Murray Binning.
The scene was placed under police guard until first light when fire investigators moved in to try and find out what caused the fire.
No details on the victim were available.
Mr Binning said it was too dark to begin the investigation after the fire.
