One person is in a critical condition in hospital after a collision involving a car and a truck in central Auckland early today.

The crash happened at 5.30am on Beach Road in the central city, police said.

Traffic diversions are in place at the corner of Ronayne and Tangihua Street.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
