State Highway 33 is now reopened after a serious crash overnight.
The highway between Tauranga and Rotorua had been closed near Paengaroa following a collision between a car and a motorcycle which left one person critically injured.
Police reported at the time the highway was likely to be closed for some time but diversions were in place and the Serious Crash Unit will examine the scene.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area and travel via Maniatutu Rd or the Tauranga Direct Route on SH36.
The stretch of SH33 was reopened at 12.30am, a police media spokeswoman said.
