A Canadian known to visit New Zealand is wanted for his involvement in the murder of 13 rival bikie gang members.
David MacDonald Carrol, also known as Wolf, is one of 26 of the world's most wanted criminals whom two international agencies have asked the public to help capture.
The International Fugitive Round-Up and Arrest (Infra-Red), a global manhunt designed to put serial killers, gangsters and drug smugglers behind bars, was launched in May and extended to the public this week by Interpol and Crime Stoppers International (CSI).
Carrol, 58, is a member of the Quebec Nomads chapter of the Hells Angels.
CSI says he and two accomplices are accused of conspiring to murder members of rival motorcycle gangs who refused to buy drug supplies off him and his gang between 1995 and 2001. He is alleged to have been involved in the murder of 13 people and the attempted murder of two others.
Carrol is known to have visited New Zealand, Australia, SouthAfrica, and Europe, as well asNorth and South America.
A police spokeswoman told the Herald that police were given a list of fugitives to run checks on when Infra-Red was launched, but did not believe any of them were in the country.
Carrol, who speaks English and French, is 182cm in height, has dark brown hair and green eyes. Some mug shots show him with a beard, a moustache and glasses. He has Hells Angels tattoos on his right arm and back and numerous scars on both arms.
A major police operation conducted by Canadian authorities in 2001 resulted in the jailing of Hells Angels members and affiliates, but did not locate Carrol.
There were a number of fugitives for whom there was no new information available, and the public was being asked to help, Infra-Red co-ordinator Martin Cox said.
"It is more likely that someone will recognise one of these fugitives from a social networking site or a chatroom than spot them walking down the street, but no matter how a member of the public has the information, we would ask that they pass it on."
