A one-month old baby girl suffered a serious assault in Waitara on Friday.
Police said the baby girl is currently being treated at Starship Hospital in Auckland.
A 29-year-old orchard worker appeared in the New Plymouth District Court on Monday charged with injuring with intent to injure, wounding with reckless disregard and breaching a protection order.
Police believed the incident occurred between 11am and 11.20am in Brown Rd, Waitara on Friday.
The girl's mother initially took her to the Waitara Medical Centre, and she was then taken to Taranaki Base Hospital in a serious condition.
