One killed, three injured in Nelson collision

One person is dead and three injured following a two-car collision at Wakefield, 16km southwest of Nelson.

The crash happened on State Highway 6 about 10.30am, Inspector Rick Jury of southern police communications said.

Emergency services closed SH6 and a detour has been put in place via Eighty Eight Valley Road and Quail Valley Road.

The detour would add considerable time to a journey and motorists were asked to be patient, Mr Jury said.
