One killed in lower North Island crash

One person is dead after a car hit a power pole near Marton in the lower North Island this morning.

The accident happened on Wellington Rd about 6.50am, Inspector Paul Jermy of police central communications said.

Emergency services had just arrived at the scene and no further details were available.
