One killed in four-vehicle crash

One person is dead after a serious crash which involved four vehicles in Canterbury this evening.

Emergency services attended after the head-on crash on State Highway 1, about 1km south of Rolleston, at 6.55pm.

Police said the crash was involved three cars and a truck.

St John Ambulance spokesman Andy Gray said one person died at the scene.

Two other people were taken to hospital, one in a moderate condition and one with minor injuries.

Police said one person was initially trapped in their vehicle, but had since been removed.

Diversions were in place until further notice, police said.

The police serious crash unit is investigating.
