One killed, another seriously injured in crash

One man was killed and another was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after their car left the road near Nelson last night.

Police said the 21-year-old driver of the Nissan Silvia had failed to negotiate a moderate bend at Upper Moutere.

He died at the scene while his 19-year-old passenger received serious head injuries in the crash, which occurred about 5.40pm.

Crash investigators are at the scene but witness statements point to speed as being a factor, police said.
